NEW COVID-19 cases continue to register a slight downward trend with only 12,805 cases today compared to yesterday’s 13,846, according to the Department of Health (DOH) COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, September 29, 2021.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 2,535,732 cases.

However, the DOH said the relatively low number of infections today was due to lower laboratory output last Monday, September 27, where the testing output was only 51,377 compared to the 70,134 average daily testing output for the last seven days.

The number of recoveries today, meanwhile, dipped significantly with only 12,236 compared to yesterday’s massive 39,980 count, to bring the number of total recoveries from COVID-19 to 2,365,229 cases.

Also, the number of active cases was at 132,339 cases, a little bit higher than yesterday’s 132,139 cases. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

Sadly, there were 186 deaths recorded today compared to yesterday’s 91 death toll to bring the total number of COVID-19 fatalities to 38,164 cases.

Positivity rate today went down again to 22.9 percent from yesterday’s 24.1 percent rate, from 51,327 people who were tested.

Majority, or 93.1 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.

A total of 38 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 27 were recoveries.

Also, 120 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

All laboratories were operational on September 27, 2021 while one laboratory was not able to submit its data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the one non-reporting laboratory contributed, on average, 0.2 percent of samples tested and 0.3 percent of positive individuals.

The DOH continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
