PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Police General. Guillermo Eleazar has ordered the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) to work with the Department of Education (DepEd) amid reports of alleged online cheating perpetrated by students amid the distance learning system.
PGen Eleazar reacted on the request of DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones asking for assistance from the authorities to investigate the issue.
“Matapos nating marinig ang paghingi ng tulong ni Sec. Liling Briones, kaagad kong inatasan ang aming Anti-Cybercrime Group na makipag-ugnayan sa Department of Education upang alamin kung paano makakatulong ang inyong PNP dito,” declares PGen Eleazar.
According to the report, students discovered a Facebook group where they can get answer keys for school examinations. Briones said that the agency will never tolerate any form of cheating.
The nation has already started School Year 2021-2022 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and as every school nationwide are still using the distance learning system.
PGen. Eleazar said education is the most important part of one’s life as he quoted American civil rights activist, Malcolm X, who said “education is a passport to the future and this future belongs to those who prepare today.”
He also added that through the PNP’s Intensified Cleanliness Policy, the PNP and its personnel are eager to help and to prevent this issue as early as now so it will not become the root of deceitfulness and dishonest practice of the nation’s students.
The program that the Chief PNP mentioned pertains to the aggressive reforms which he has started when he took the top police post May this year.
The Intensified Cleanliness Policy was based on the broken windows theory which explains that small problems must be prevented immediately to prevent them from getting worse.
“Sa ating mga mag-aaral at kanilang mga magulang, hindi pabilisan at patalinuhan ang tunay na intensyon ng edukasyon kaya hayaan ninyong matuto kayo sa matapat na paraan and at your own pace. Dahil ayon nga sa lagi nating naririnig na sinasabi ng ating mga guro: Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all,” PGen Eleazar stated.
The National Bureau of Investigation is now conducting a separate investigation on the matter.
