THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded 3,410 new COVID-19 infections today, lower than yesterday’s 4,008 count, according to the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, October 31, 2021.

The numbers today represent a new 15-week low when the DOH recorded only 3,604 cases last July 13, 2021.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 2,787,276 cases.

Active cases, on the other hand, went down again to 45,233 cases today after registering a 47.690 count yesterday. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

Recoveries from COVID-19 today, meanwhile, registered 5,825 new recoveries after posting 6,887 recoveries yesterday. Overall, COVID-19 recoveries hover closer to the 2.7-million count with 2,698,871 cases.

The DOH noted that after experiencing a sharp rise in COVID-19 fatalities yesterday with 423 deaths, the highest number of people who succumbed to the disease since the pandemic began, it dropped to a total of 128 deaths today to bring the total COVID-19 deaths to 43,172.

Positivity rate today, meanwhile, dropped to 7.2 percent from yesterday’s 7.8 percent based on 46,450 people who were tested.

Around 78.5 percent of the cases were mild and asymptomatic, the DOH bulletin noted.

A total of 30 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 25 were recoveries.

There were also 91 cases that were tagged earlier as recoveries but were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

All laboratories were operational on October 29, 2021 while four laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the four non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 0.6 percent of samples tested and 0.4 percent of positive individuals.

The agency continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. It also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
