THE Department of Health (DOH) said that for the National Capital Region (NCR) to achieve a lower alert level classification, everyone should work together to keep the region’s low-risk status.
“We remind everybody that we should work together so that we can sustain this low-risk status so that we can eventually be deescalated to Alert Level 1,” DOH spokesperson, Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, pointed out during the Laging Handa briefing.
She said that de-escalating the NCR to Alert Level 1 will depend on the metrics as the government continues to ramp up efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We should observe carefully the metrics for Alert Level 1. The NCR’s low-risk classification should be sustained by two incubation periods,” she added.
Vergeire reiterated that mobility, plus compliance to minimum public health standards (MPHS) and the response of the local government units will matter a lot.
The DOH, she said, notes that low compliance by the public to MPHS can cause a spike in COVID-19 cases.
Vergeire’s statement came as some groups continue to call on the government to allow NCR to go down to Alert Level 1, hopefully before Christmas day, but is also opposed by other groups.
The IATF already de-escalated the NCR’s alert level from the previous Alert Level 3 to Alert Level 2 last November 5, which will end on November 21, 2021.
