THE Philippine National Police (PNP) today welcomed the creation of an Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) unit that will closely coordinate with the police and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on matters related to peace and order.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar, welcomed the creation of the Office of the Secretariat for Joint Peace Security Coordinating Council (JPSCC), that will perform secretariat functions for the AFP Chief of Staff, who co-chairs the joint coordinating council along with the PNP Chief and the PCG Commandant.

There’s been a long-standing partnership between the PNP and the AFP when it comes to maintaining peace and order in the country, and this was proven in the campaign against illegal drugs wherein the AFP was actively involved the series of confiscations of billions worth of shabu in Zambales, Cavite and other parts of the country in the past two months,” said PGen Eleazar.

With the activation of the Office of the Secretariat for Joint Peace Security Coordinating Council which now includes the Philippine Coast Guard commandant as co-chairperson, we believe that it would result in strong coordination among the law enforcement agencies to continue reducing the crime rate in the country and eventually make our kababayan further feel security and safety in their homes, on the streets and in the community,” he added.

The AFP has designated Brigadier General Alex Rillera to lead the newly-created office.

In July, the three government agencies inked a tripartite mechanism to enhance their interoperability in responding to internal and external threats.

The agreement stated that cooperation and coordination among the AFP, PNP, and PCG, including consultation with all stakeholders will be the guiding principle in addressing peace and security concerns in the country.

We welcome the activation of this unit as an effort to further strengthen relations and collaboration among the PNP, the AFP and the PCG in keeping the country secure against lawless elements, terrorists and other threats to peace in our communities,” PGen Eleazar said.

PGen Eleazar added that the PNP is looking forward to more successful security operations in the future.
