AT LEAST nine people were reportedly dead while 11 were missing on Tuesday due to floods and landslides brought by heavy rain caused by Typhoon “Maring” (international name: “Kompasu”), the National Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
With maximum winds hitting over 100 kph, “Maring,” which earlier combined with what remained of tropical depression Nando (later became a low pressure area), battered the northern Philippines area, particularly in Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, and even in Narra in Palawan as it made landfall on Monday evening.
The NDRRMC said it is still validating reports from its regional councils concerning casualties, mostly coming from flash floods and landslides.
An estimated 1,600 people were evacuated at the height of the typhoon.
