THE police will conduct a deeper investigation into the death of a bicycle rider whose body was recovered in Kawit, Cavite.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar gave the order on Saturday, October 9, after the local police, who initially thought that Kenneth Ponce was a victim of a hit-and-run road accident, turned out during the initial check on his cadaver that he suffered a gunshot wound.
He was found along Abaya Road, Barangay Tabon in Kawit last October 3.
His mountain bike was missing which prompted the police to include the angle that he was shot to get the bicycle from him.
“The appeal from the parents of our kababayan rider, who was mercilessly killed and even robbed of his bicycle in Cavite, came to me. I also would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Kenneth Adrian Ponce and being a parent myself, I feel their pain of losing a child,” PGen Eleazar said.
“I’ve already tasked the RD of PRO4A himself, PBGen Ely Cruz, to focus on this case and do everything they can to identify and make the ones responsible for Kenneth’s slay answer to the law,” he added.
PGen Eleazar also tasked the unit commanders to determine the schedules and routes of bike riders so that they may conduct police patrols and ensure their safety. Bicycles are being commonly used now amid the pandemic as a mode of transportation.
“We won’t allow fear to be felt by bike riders who just wanted to strengthen their bodies amid this pandemic,” PGen Eleazar said.
PGen Eleazar likewise appealed to the public to help authorities in resolving this case by providing pertinent information about the crime.
