THE Department of Health (DOH) posted lower numbers of new COVID-19 infections today with 18,449, lower than yesterday’s 20,755 cases, according to the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, September 27, 2021.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to the 2.5-million mark with 2,509,177 cases.

Again, the number of recoveries today posted good numbers with 21,811 recoveries, though lower than yesterday’s 24,391 count. This brings the number of total recoveries from COVID-19 to 2,313,412 cases.

Also, the number of active cases was lower today at 158,169 compared to yesterday’s 161,447 cases. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

There were also 93 deaths recorded today to bring the total number of COVID-19 fatalities to 37,494 cases.

After three days of zero deaths because of glitches in the COVIDKaya system, the DOH pointed out that it will report the backlog in the number of deaths through separate advisories.

Positivity rate today went up again to 23.5 percent from yesterday’s 21.9 percent rate, from 68,678 people who were tested.

Majority, or 94.1 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.

A total of 130 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 61 were recoveries and four were deaths.

Also, 227 cases earlier tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases and 117 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

All laboratories were operational on September 25, 2021 while two laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the two non-reporting laboratories contributed, on average, 0.07 percent of samples tested and 0.04 percent of positive individuals.

The DOH continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
