WHILE the country tries to revive its economy without compromising the public’s health risk from COVID-19, at least 294 areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) were placed under granular lockdowns, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced Monday.
Areas imposed with the new community quarantine scheme were logged in 151 barangays across 10 cities and municipalities.
Among these, 193 were considered as mere houses, 30 were streets, 18 were subdivisions, 14 were residential building floors, while 39 pertained to entire residential buildings.
According to the PNP, a nearly 700-strong police force were deployed on top of its 933 force multipliers to enforce the lockdown.
Under granular restrictive measures, local government units (LGUs) have the authority to decide whether or not a specific house, compound, street or building is in a “critical zone” deemed areas of special concern based on its COVID-19 cases count.
On Wednesday, Parañaque Mayor and Metro Manila Council (MMC) head Edwin Olivarez underscored that a “micro-granular” lockdown may be immediately imposed even if there exists only one COVID-19 case in a house or an establishment’s floor.
On the other hand, a whole street may be placed under the same scheme, provided that at least two COVID-19 positive cases are recorded.
The entire capital region is still placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) with Alert Level 4 until September 30 as granular lockdowns remain enacted.
